There must a formula of attacking turrets. Noone (not just :LTC: ) need a "luck" in this strategy game. There is enough of "luck" in useing of WARP. B)

well every time you atatck a planet turrets defense is decreased, however since having more than 20 turrets will take ages to kill all of those, and that is the point of turrets, slow down the attackers, giving a chance for the defender ;)
Best thing o do is use trained fighters, as many as you can. Attacks should be expensive and now we have expensive attacks =D

full trained ship has higher attack (so more likely to kill each turret it shoots at) and higher defense (so will survive longer to kill more turrets). Thus, you probably will kill a few turrets with each fully trained fighter. Lets see, each fighter - turret battle with trained fighter you have 21/40 chance of killing turret, so about 50% chance. Each turret hits with average of 3.5k damage per turret, so a trained fighter would see an average of about 7 turrets before dying.

Thus, a trained fighter would kill about 3.5 turrets per fighter before it is killed, and if there are less than seven turrets on the planet, the probability of the fighter surviving the attack (with damage, but surviving) goes way up. Thus, less than about ten turrets are pretty weak against a trained fighter attack, which will wipe out the turrets for less cost than the construction of the turrets that are being killed costs. On the other hand, more than 15 turrets are pretty strong, and it will take a lot of 200% trained fighters to take them out, or a huge number of full attack, full defense untrained fighter to take them out.

Of course, keep in mind that building a turret costs much more than the cost of building an untrained fighter, as untrained fighters are very cheap to make by comparison, so it is not surprising that it takes 3-4 full attack/defense untrained fighters to take out each turret.

By the way, some of the fighters Iiridayn destroyed had zero defense. These fighters are almost worthless against turrets, as you probably discovered during this attack.

So, the good news is this shows that it is possible for a player who is online to respond to an attack against a HW with turrets because they have time to launch a counter attack on ships.

It is quite reasonable to expect an online player to use more than turrets to kill attacking ships, and if you lose fighters with no defense or low defense while trying to attack turrets, then it does not seem too surprising that someone might want to defend their HW.
