Cricket, rugby, and soccer are not "major" sports. Baseball, REAL football, hockey, golf, and basketball are major sports Americans consider criket and rugby a bunch of bullsh**, and as for soccer its not a major sport in the US, and the US are still ranked 5th, unbelievable that they rank higher than such teams as england.

And "soccer" isn't a major sport???
There I'm afraid you are wrong, "soccer" or as it is properly known football is the biggest sport in the World.

Now I'm not about to say that the USA Football team is rubbish, how can it be they got to the World Cup finals afterall. But they do have a lot less talent and skill than at least 2 thirds of the other teams in this years tournament and despite the fact that we all knew they'd be beaten by the Czech Republic who have an excellent team, the American teams lack of real talent was telling in this match.

And really, World rankings don't mean that much due to the different continents that the teams play a majority of their games in. Much of the rankings this year are made up from the qualifying matches for the World Cup so position and points really depends on how well each team did in it's individual continents qualifying matches rather than on a one for one worldwide basis.
You also have to take into account the number of International competitions each continent has, Europe has just the Euro Championship once every 4 years where the international teams get to compete. South America has many international tournaments and even Africa has a fair few so they play more matches than the European teams.

If the USA put some of that "prosperity, wealth, and power" into the World's greatest sport instead of hiding behind Baseball, Basketball and American Football which have no real Intercontinental or World Tournaments of interest to the rest of the World then I'm certain America would be right up there with the Brazilians and Czechs in international football.

The US will have to play extraordinarily well to progress beyond Group E, but I reserve full judgement until I have seen the Italy and Ghana games.
