I may be wrong, they may already be directed to the mission page.
But if I remember correctly then there currently are not.
Which means new players are joining and thinking, ok what the hell do I do now after ive signed up.
Oh look theres missions, take one look and think what the heck and click the x button and we never see them again.
The Missions explain the basics of playing Skylords. But they dont actually explain what skylords is, what skylords is about. What it takes to get by in skylords and what it takes to actually play well.

Edit

I think also upon joining Skylords.
New players should be directed to the Skylords Handbook written by Hope.
Or at least have some kind of starting help guide automatically emailed to them.
Those 2 things could make a huge difference or could make no difference at all, but putting the time in to make those things possible is worth it if there is a chance of helping newer players understand Skylords a little bit better when they first join.

This reminds me that there are a couple of parts of Hope's Handbook that are outdated i.e. the Buildings and Figures sections.

Hi SkyLords players.

As a new player I can say, that although I have found the missions easy enougth to accomplish, the initial understanding of the game was lost on me. It took some searching of the forums to grasp what my game goal was (hw building, chains, resources etc) and the actual environment I was in (newbie arena vs real arena) also what the game was really about.

For me when beginning a new game, I enjoy researching it via forums etc before I start, to get an understanding, so the process for me personally was fine, but for people that just want to jump in and play the current concept may seem confusing.

I agree with many of the above posts and even as a new player can see the benefits of highlighting the SL Handbook and having better direction to the missions tab etc, but what lost me in the initial game play was explained perfectly by Eternal Light:

"The Missions explain the basics of playing Skylords. But they dont actually explain what skylords is, what skylords is about. What it takes to get by in skylords and what it takes to actually play well."

And my final input would be age related. I'm an adult and with age comes patience (in most cases) thus allowing the tollerance to search for answers and work through any problems that arise in the hope that this really will become a captivating game. Now many youngsters do have the capacity to do this also, but in most cases I would imagine that the respose would be, 'I don't really understand this, I will find something else to play'.

Reading through the forums I can tell that it is an adult populated game, and was one of the reasons I joined hoping for a nice level of maturity and fun of course. But I think this may also show that it is missing out on a large sector of the gaming market.

Maybe I'm wrong, it's just the ramblings of an old man (not that old though) :P

PS. Thank you Pray for the welcome mail and the link to the SL Handbook

PaganMoon, we had an old man of 60 some odd years old playing Skylords. He was wiser than any of us. (You guys remember thabin?) And we welcome players of all ages. It's good to have you around.

Thanks also for the vital information, and I think we've come to somewhat of a general consensus of what needs to be done in terms of the New Player's Arena. More debate is needed for more complex issues, but generally speaking, we need to make it easier for new players, and give them a better sense of direction when joining the game.

hi PaganMoon welcome to the game it used to b a very very busy game before the initial downtime of the server where we had players as young as 13 playing but since the crash the average age i think has probably gotten older

although maturity is another matter although the average age has gone up i think the average maturity has gone down :D
