Professor

I misinterpreted your change; I read it as risk for all flights, but reduced risk - i.e even drift would have some form of risk. However, I still do not see the need for speed to be increased. Filas states correctly that from the battlezone you can get to anywhere in the universe in 87 minutes, let us assume that it takes only 174 minutes from one side of the universe to the other. That is plenty fast enough in my opinion.

I support the idea of reducing speed and eliminating risk, makes the game even more based on strategy than chance. Leave chance to the board games.

To Abe

It prevents it to a point, but not entirely. By the by I have no real problem to this change, I merely suggest some sort of ceiling. It's not neccessary at all, it was merely a tack on to the idea.

As for the newbies, you're forgetting the size of the universe and the lack of players about. Besides, no player is going to want to go through the newbie missions twice, I've been down and done them, they're pretty god damn gruelling tasks for a new player and the wait involved is long to. It is unlikely that a new player who restarts in the real arena will be defeated twice in the same week, let alone the same day.

I do not like the change to newbie arena, it merely lets clans build up players then defeat them themselves and recycle the planets through the clan.

"let us assume that it takes only 174 minutes from one side of the universe to the other."

you can't assume like that as from any place you can enter the bz and fly to any place within 87 min (with some additional seconds for entering bz). So it takes 87min from one side to another :)

To Dios

recycling of planets in this case i can see your point but if someone is willing to go through all this effort then you need to remember where these planets come out in consideribly random, yes they come out and drop stright upon say you, if they are not your clan member, you are going to erridicate them, at least i know i would

As for the credits, the current system is exactly the same, after all if they can't give credits they can always just give say troops bought with credits, it is a tack but its not on the idea its on the system and if players are willing, then where is the problem, in ogame they call this type of thing pushing, but only if the weaker is giving to stronger, i think pushing works both ways, but then at the same time, RNA, Bert etc give out homeworlds for people to build up for them, where is the difference in giving them troops, after all nothing is for free

I meant without use of BZ ;) Often some players will avoid using BZ even if cost is higher just to have their movements unknown.

Abe, point taken on credits.

My point with the planet recycling is that rather than come out and have you erradicate them, it works the other way round. These players drop, take back some of their resources, take your planets and then their original planets are recycled through the clan when they are defeated.

Here is my two cents worth for I - flight. I would increase the cost, I would lower the number of ship loses, I would increase speed ....

However I would include a greater chance of the ship ending up at a random location, possibly with a much longer flight time (drift speed) because of the malfunction.

We would be much more likely to use I and much more likely to scream at the computer screen when we have the message, Your ships engines have malfunctioned in I-flight. Then we click on the ship in question and find. You ship will come out of hyper in 413 minutes.

That's probably the worst idea I've ever heard.

SL is meant to be a strategy game, not a game based on chance. Yes in life there are unexpected events that ruin your strategy from time to time; malfunctions, careless mistakes etc... but often these happen as a result of neglect. For the change you describe I have no love. At the moment there is no chance of a ship ending up in a random location and that is how it should stay.

As for increased speed, have you not listened to Filas? Already you can get anywhere in the universe in 87 minutes; 174 if you wish to avoid using the battlezone. The universe is shrinking from the old days; the blank corners of the maps are filling up. Strategy works two ways - attack and defence. The increased speed damages the defensive side of the game drastically and ultimately it could also harm the attacking side; moving through targets too quickly. At the moment I would say that speed is finely balanced, although I would reduce it a bit. There is certainly no need or any sense in increasing the speed of I Flight.

I dislike rknee's idea. However i also believe the way you deal with unecpected occurances of a random and non random nature also requires strategy. the ability to form a strategy (to get the best possible outcome) when things dont work to ones desires.

Coalitions,

In your signature, I am not persuaded that Serpents are wise and that being harmless as doves is a good idea. Besides, Doves can cause a lot of damage in large numbers by making big messes everywhere.
