The real value in destroying a trained assault is the loss to the owner and the prevention of damages. People never intend to fight with trained assaults (or any assaults), so increasing points won't make any difference in making BZ combat more profitable (in points). I also doubt that anyone who is able to kill an assault would hesitate to do so if the opportunity occured, regardless of whether there was any points or not for doing it.

As for fairness, it hardly seems like shooting a ship with no defenses should be viewed as more valuable than killing a ship which can shoot back and which would kill you if it was able to shoot faster than you did. That seems like it should be worth the most points.

In setting points, I followed the ratios agreed to by Filas and Bert a year ago after lots of discussion, but have adjusted the points upward to make killing fighters reasonably close in value to killing defense on planets. That was my primary goal in making this adjustment, as I would like to reward excellence in fighter to fighter combat more than we have at any time in the past history of the game.
