OK, I've got a question. I'm new to this. I'm in the Newbie arena. I found a planetary system near one of mine - only about 750 units away. One of the planets is owned by the SP Confederation, so I know it's OK to take it. The other two are owned by a player. I checked his stats and he only has the two planets. He's got two stars by his name so I guess that means he's in his second month of playing?

Yes. The number of stars equals number of months played with a max of five. Yes, it is ok for you to take all planets in my opinion, especially those of players that have quit. Do not keep resources on your hw until you have at least 20m defense. Put them on ships, turn them into credits, or bank. When you have a sizeable amount then put all of your res on there.

You cannot obliterate planets in the first arena(may be during immunity), but I think it is first area or in the bz.

I have a ship next to one of my planets but it won't let me dock! It says I must be close to the plant to do that, but I am close to the planet!

You say it is yours. It is blue if this is the case. You can only dock on your own planets. "Close" is defined as touching the planet i.e. there is no way to get closer without being on it.

Yeah it's my planet, I even set the co-ordinates to ensure my ship went to the exact location, it shows the ship touching the planet but still will not let me dock? |

Question for all you experienced folks out there. I'm still a newbie in the newbie arena. I'm captured 21 planets and was checking for nearby planets. I found a bunch and went and checked them out with my spy ship. No problems, except for one system.
