Personally, I make a model and delete it when I have no more ships on it. So I'm usually @ around 7 models.

i have 11 models and ships of 9 but other two are ones I use rather frequently(probes, training trans) so would be nice to have more allowed

Well that would make it easier to (combining models). My problome is that I have had ships given to me and bought ships so now when I want to make my own I have those in the way of my new ships.
