GoDaddy 3rd tier (first time I've been escalated that far with that company ;P) support figured out what was wrong -- something that first tier had told me to do ;P. (which didn't take effect until I had to reboot the machine -- which I try to avoid doing as it somehow destroys the news table but leaves the rest of the db alone :/). Anyway, it was something about the domain name, something I had changed to try to get the few email providers that silently discard (which is simply rude ) emails from SkyLords (I suspect it's ISP email accounts, as every free webbased one I tried worked fine, and I couldn't test them, but the complaints that I can remember were from players using them too). Anyway, still working on the sockets issue (which is why sometimes SL doesn't allow new connections -- the OS runs out of connections to give out for some reason) and the email issue (which apparently has something to do with a domain name mismatch; will call hosting support again soon about it ). In the meantime, I'd appreciate any advice from experienced network/system administrators, as I only learned programming (though more than coding anyway ;P) during my undergrad.

Would have been full out downtime if I hadn't been online . Three times in one day now . I think fix that I removed that was supposed to make it crash less (I removed it since it's still been crashing, and more frequently over time, it would seem) actually did make it crash less ;P.
