What color is the sky?

I don't think the sky has colour... does it?

idk i was thinking that between the reyons of light being filtered through the shaningans of the earth it might end up turning green before all is said and done with

I guess that even though it is actually transparent, due to us seeing it as blue, green, grey etc, I suppose it does have a colour.
It's the sunlight mixed with the atmospheric gasses that forms the colour I believe, and as these gasses make up the sky, then yes it does have a colour, but that colour is then dependant on many more factors, like time of day, cloud cover etc.

I should have just said "blue" lol

Sigh, ok I will straighten you out. Assuming you can see colour (some people can't lets not forget) then you see the sky as the colour of wavelength that is being 'most' scattered by the atmosphere.

The actualy gasses themselves are colourless but as electro-magenetic radiation passes through the gasses different wavelenghts are either relected, allowed to passy through or scattered.

Blue light (or light of shorter wavelengths) is scatterd the most when passing through 'thinner' layers of atmosphere so during the day when the sun is up we see the sky as blue (again as long as you can infact see blue). In the evening when the sun is very low on the horizon the sky becomes red or orange as the shorter wavelengths can't penetrate the thicker layer of atmosphere (the suns rays have to pass through more air before hitting your eyes, too much scattering) while the longer wavelenghts (reds) can pass straight on through (they always were but were being drowned out by all the blue earlier in the day.

So what colour is the sky? Actually if you could see in Infrared or Ultrviolet it would be more those wavelengths...and well if you can't see blue or red...it would be white or light grey...but for most somewhere between blue (most of the time, red just for short periods or transparent...at night when you see right out into space.

I dunno, high school was a long time ago, sadly I can't quite remember what was intersting or not...except girls, music and um...certain other vices and figuring out how to get them, yah that was pretty interesting.
