Let's face it, planets are extremely sparse.

At the current planet count, there is an average separation of 1400 spaces between individual planets, and realistically it's even lower than that because of the fact that the average planets per system is probably around 2, so the average system separation is more like 2500-3000 spaces

This is boring and stagnant.

I understand we can't have massive amounts of planets spread across the galaxy, it'd be overkill. So why not just compress the entire region, cut all coordinate locations in half from what they are currently. And cut the generation range in half as well.

I'd kinda like if we actually had to do some level of work to keep nearbys clear, keep our systems safe, and actually have to work for our resource worlds and keeping them safe, not just have them sitting there with no real threat.

I find that having peaceful and safe parts of the SL universe is pretty cool.

It's somewhat a sanctuary and a peace zone in itself. Don't you think so ?

There is a zone where you can go all rambo and just duke it out with fellow players and there's the part that lets you mellow out and enjoy yourself.

(It may sound all hippy-like, but I think it's pretty fun)

Most of us have planets we know of that can be taken if so desired. Several of us have records of several hundred systems. Now admittedly a lot of these are HW's of inactive players. But the fact remains that if you want something to attack, there are targets out there to spend effort on to have something to do.

Undoubtebly (is that a word) so, but they are somewhat safe, aren't they ?

They are pretty well-known - anyone can come and prey on the incoming assaults when they wish and pretty much all the old players have a tad of respect not to attack... at least I hope so :D

There have been several things done to let players get some faster action-
1. The BZ planets, if you want the thrill of taking planes and loosing them just attack active players planets in this area.
2. Alien Invasion planets. Some players think these are fun to race to take.

As for old players who are no longer active, well some of them need to be moved to the defeated column. IMHO it would be better to do that then wipe out new players who are trying to learn how to play the game. It might help then to have the dead wood cleared out.

I agree with you Tom. If you want to duke it out over production planets hit an active player in the BZ. I like hunting down my enemies so I am against compressing the the SL universe.

I do have mixed feelings about the old vets. They aren't playing so on the one hand it would probably be better to defeat them. But I have a lot of inactive SL friends I just don't think I could bring myself to attack. I figure all the the active vets feel the same way and have differnt friends so all players considered probably no inactive vet is one hundred percent safe.

I dunno, the SL Universe was expanded to it's current +-12k limit way back in the day when we actually had active players beyond 10ish people and when there were 20k+ planets at any given point in time

Now there's 5k planets, it just feels stagnant, like sit around, jump through the warp, hunt down the alien planets, and when you're bored with too many resources go kill an old homeworld

I agree with Reiver about it being stagnent.

We should have more planets.

The number of planets needs to be at equailibrum. It goes up and down depending on activity. A few more would not hurt. But compressing the system down would.

whoa just found this again? Tom what are you talking about? Planet counts going up and down with activity would mean that SL is in a state of equalibrum with the players in it. If you was refering to there needing to be a constant planet count, I think that would get boring after a while because you'd always be able to find an abundence of planets, and would really only end up bennifiting those who can't efficently manage their planets.
