Taken from the Diplomacy Information...
"""""This is for all newbs....

Whatever you do.....DONT MAKE A CLAN YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!! """""
..........

This is just one of the things that prevent you people having new players to the game! I have played this game for many years under a variaty of names, and it's always the same....The older players like to rule...I personally have never had this attitude.

For example, this line taken from the diplomacy forum regarding not creating a clan because: If you really MUST create a clan (be warned, it will annoy many players, it is better to apply to join a clan).

It will annoy many players??? Really, am I allowed to gather at least 25 planets, or will that too annoy many players?

When you people realise that this is a "game", is when you might actually get new players joining and wanting to learn how to play. By telling people that they cannot create a clan, is restricting the playability of the game....who are you to tell people they cannot do this???... oh and if they do, you will target them and wipe them from the game???... Great, another new player gone!!!...Lets face it, anyone can create a clan (after 3 months of playing), and what the hell if it's a 1 person clan...who the Hell cares??? You don't want a 100 single person clans cluttering up your little website! What you would rather have 15 active members involved in 5 different clans, instead of 115 people playing in multiple clans?...Sheesh even then, 115 people active on one site is poor for game play.

Why not let people join and stop dictating to them what to do. You all play amongst each other and hope that new players will join, telling them that you will help them... then why not let them play the game, start a clan???? Is this not one more clan to compete with?? How do you know it won't be the next big clan and over rule all others?

I am tired of seeing the same old rubbish, like Apocalypse, ChaosInDaGalaxy, The Swarm etc and AIDG, EIDG blah, blah (long gone) etc, etc thinking they rule the site that is, skylords.....if you want this game to move forward, then get over yourselves. And don't tell me that you invite new players to existing clans because it will benifit them rather than them working alone...how many other games do that...many?...yes, but do those games try to prevent new clans being made?....no! And is your 'no newbie clan' working for you?...no!!

This game died many years ago, and was never that healthy even then...but it still has it's faithfull players...why not strive to change and stop being so 'big headed'. It's the simplest things that will make new players continue to play.

This is only 'one' thing that prevents new players from really trying in skylords...think about the others, and think about change if you really want this game to grow!

And when you make your opinions on this post and tell me I've made a mistake in my outlook and I'm wrong... please explain why I'm wrong, I may even agree.

I don't think that's an issue anymore? if you feel you are ready and want to make a clan go right on ahead, most likely all you will get is an empty private forum not any power... best of luck to you. hope you do better than acme.

As you pointed out, this is only one small reason people don't stay active when they join. Some of the more major reasons is the difficulty of establishing oneself when facing up against well-established vets. I doubt many 'newbs', if indeed we have any still coming in, look at that topic, and I certainly doubt that that single piece of advice (and regardless of the fact that it is also labeled 'important', it is still merely ADVICE) turns that many players away from the game. The very reason that topic was made was that, at that point in the game's existence, there were hundreds upon hundreds of 'newb clans' that were, quite shockingly, inactive. My statement of ages past that it would annoy many players was in that context.

The fact remains that very few new players have stuck around after establishing their own clans, undoubtedly due to reasons more varied than I can think of at 4 AM. The vast majority of players who have stayed with the game did so either as members of a well-established clan or, more rarely, simply never joined a clan. Obviously there are always exceptions to the rule - I, the very author of that statement you find so horribly offensive, created a clan just three months after joining the game.

If a player really wants to stick around in SkyLords, they will do so regardless of a post from 5 years ago telling them they shouldn't make a clan. On a side note that should not logically follow that last sentence of mine, your example of gathering 25 planets isn't even close to being the same concept. That would PLEASE many players, because it would mean a new player was actually being active. As already stated, in the context of that post, players would join the game, make a clan, and then never log in again. It was nothing like your picture of ### people playing in multiple clans. In the most active time period of the game, a maximum of 15 clans broke 10k points in a round. The most that broke 100k in a single round was 7. I've sufficiently devolved this into a rant at this point that it's long since time to wrap this up.

Summary: I have serious doubts that this one thing you find major issue with has much of anything to do with new players sticking around. The simple fact, one that has always been true about this game, is that entering it and establishing oneself takes time, and those first few days or weeks aren't at all exciting. New players don't get exposed to our 'big headed'ness, or any other aspect of our personalities (I do like how the whole community shares these attributes, though) until they become involved enough to, at the very least, read the forums, and I personally think that they would see a lot more than the one negative statement in that one post of mine from 5 years ago.

It's mainly an outdated statement

Since then the system was recoded so inactive clans that gain no points within a given month are deleted, but a long time ago there used to be hundreds if not thousands of clans and it was a horrible mess trying to sort through the inactive one player clans that some random guy made 3 seconds into the game to find the handful of clans worth joining.

Very true, The good old days.

Zygi built this game and it was Buggy. The clan list was extremely unwieldy and we did not have a way to remove dead clans. People would join start a clan and then leave and then we were stuck with pages and pages of Crap.

Also it is still good advice. Those in existing clans are generally active players. This is a legacy game. For the most part since we got some of the bugs fixed and got serious about banning Multi's, those of us Vets left will help support any Newb who show the least bit of interest. wether in our clan or not.
