We don't have death penality here so i don't know how seriuos the crime is to get it in USA or somewhere else. I'm not saying "live for a live" nor that every murder should lead to death penality. Life is strange, everything might happen. But there are enough persons that deserve it for sure and enough cases that bring no doubts. If laws are too strict (live for live or something like that) it doesn't mean death penality is wrong itself.

In America it is normally very serious crimes that carry the death penalty.. except in Texas *grin*

I'm not entirely sure on death penalty in America myself, I'm from the UK. Here the only crime to carry the death penalty is treason against the Crown, last case for that was Guy Fawkes I believe.

There are very few cases that remove doubt completely, that is why the boundary of proof is "reasonable doubt". The only way a case can truely be proved beyond doubt is if there is some sort of camera footage of the event taking places. Eye witnesses are not trustworthy as all humans are open to corruption. Many forms of evidence can be contaminated or not a full enough specimen collected etc... etc... the possibilities for mistake and therefore for doubt are endless and thus doubt is rarely truely expelled from the equation. That is why you see many people released with an apology from the State for wrongful imprisonment.

Therein you find what is wrong with the death penalty. You can not reverse it. In 20 or 30 years time, a man may be proven innocent - how then do you release him back into the society that he should never have been removed from? You can not. Equally the death penalty leaves no room for reconciliation or reform in the character of a person. Such actions are possibilities in all crime and to eradicate them is wrong in my opinion.

There are plenty of crimes that happen where the doubt is zero. As In you were caught on tape doing the deed. You admit your crime in a courtroom, etc. And People who will never leave prison do not need reform. Why reform someone who will never be back in society?

And It is a rarity that those on death row are ever proven innocent and getting fewer as technology advances. Has it happened in the past, yes. Does that invalidate the whole system No. It all boils down to acceptable risk, Aceptable risk is never 0, Everything that we do from the cars we drive to the plane we fly in are all based upon that acceptable risk where the price to implement safety features outweigh their costs. SHould we release a thousand murders to save 1 innocent man? NO. Another thing to think on is this, you have a better chance to be killed driving a car than actually being killed by the state on death row.

let me set up this scenario for u.. so maybe u could think the way we are...

u are at home with ur wife.. and she wants u to go get groceries.. so u head out to the supermarket and it a hot day so when u park u leave ur windows cracked.. u go into the store and get wat u need.. while ur doin ur shopping a guy mugs and kills an old lady with a gun.. then as he is running he stashes the gun (evidence) in ur car through the window slot... u walk out and unknowing sit down on the gun but then u notice ur sittin on somthin.. so u reach down and grab it to see wat it is and hey wat do u kno theres the murderers gun with ur fingerprints on it... as u are panicing as to wat u should do the cops fly by and notice u holding the gun... u go to jail and at court u and ur wife both know u didnt kill the old lady.. but all the evidence shows that u did.. so now u either get the death penalty or a life sentence in prison... which would u choose? in the death penalty u are killed and even if more evidence is found proving ur not the killer ur still already dead... but if u get the life in prison u spend a couple months to a couple yrs in prison when that murderer is booked in another killing and he is tied to the old ladies murder too.. and ur freed from prison and get to live out the rest of ur life with ur wife and kids... does that seem really fair for the accused if they didnt do it to get the death penalty? ... sure if u were the murderer u deserver life in prison... but dont u think the innocent should b protected over the guilty? this is y life sentences would b the better choice cuz ur punishing the guilty and protecting the possible innocent.. where can it go wrong?

i say if they have killed a person then an eye for an eye

if they kill alot of people then life in prison without luxaries would be the case if i could choose (or slave labor but alot of people frown upon such a thing oh well  )

and no more life in prison for drugs if you want to make a person stop doing drug

kill them  if there not going to stop on there own why would they stop after being forced to stop i think that would make them want it more (or slave labor again i mean a meth addict has alot of energy(this option would alos solve our immigration problem)) :D

coce i dont think u quite understand how the human brain works... they dont stop on their own cuz usually its either an impulse action (meaning they do it out of sheer rage) or they are mentally unstable and they dont see it as wrong... someone spending the rest of their life in prison would realize that wat they did was wrong and will probably have that devil and angel thought.. if i do this again im getting in trouble... and anyways if they spent life in prison why would u be worried about them killin other ppl.. u want those ppl in there to have the death sentence..

I am against the death penalty. Its simply not just. If you kill them they have paid no debt to society. They are simply and irrevocably dead. If you put them in prison, even if they have no chance of getting out, then they can do service for the community and begin to pay back the debt to which they owe society.
As for the prison itself. Luxuries should be limited. I saw 'knowledge of the outside" mentioned earlier as something that is vital if someone is to ever leave. This is true but rather than tv give them a newspaper. I saw someone bitch about excercise equipment and another bitch about medical costs. What the hell kind of plan is that? To deprive them of physical fitness and then bitch when they get sick? As for work. I have no qualms about forced labor as long as it isnt going to kill them. As a resident of a country you are in a social contract with that society. If you break its laws then you lose fundamental freedoms until you pay them back. Simple as that.

So what should have happened in the case of Saddam Hussein, in your opinion, MinderBinder?
