Spread the news, we soon won't need expensive life-threatening drugs to cure cancer:

http://www.foresight.org/nanodot/?p=2364

and of course diabetes isn't impossible either:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/11/061126115521.htm

We should be able to continue extending life spans, and keep the extra time more meaningful...

Discuss.

known about b4, most of the stuff that they find, such as plants, that can cure these things, have been around for thousands of years, its just that the drug companies can't put a patent on a plant that grows wild.

Greedy :censored:

Yeah, we do need to spread the word so that drug companies won't be able to destroy this cure as well, so killer wolf's post is totally relevant. These items are nano tech, but you would think there would be other cures... of course that wouldn't make money, the real trick is to keep people alive, while forcing them to continue to pay for your drugs...

"most of the stuff that they find, such as plants, that can cure these things, have been around for thousands of years"
bull excrement! like using nanotechnology to create a drug delivery system?

as for your argument "drug companies can't put a patent on a plant that grows wild. " yeah, thats true, but is not the drug compnies fault - blame the patent system. Drugs companies are companies with shareholders and all that comes with that. They ar there to make a profit, just like any other company, yet they always take stick form people because they ask for payment. If you'er such a good samaritan how come you're not out curing disease for free?

holier than thou ball-x

yay *decides to take up smoking & doubles sugar intake*

I was wondering how they just happened to find several mice with colon cancer, if its by chance then fair play but if they do something that gives them cancer how can we be sure that research is relavent to people with cancer not caused by whatever they did to the innocent mice.

I wouldnt be surprised if the money in the shareholders coffers is enough to make it free.

all they would do to cause the cancer is place a live cancer cell in the mice and hope it takes root so to say

yeah, various ways. either they have a strain that is susceptable to colon cancer, or they introduce cancerous cells into a healthy mouse.
'innocent', hope you're not gonna start an animal rights argument here! :P

anyway, at work today I realised I'd kinda gone off toipic, that being cure for cancer and extended life-spans... (sorry the whole 'drugs-companies-are-evil-Id-rather-that-all-drugs-were-free-but-our-children-still-died-in-their-droves-of-curable-diseases-because-nobody -can-afford-to-do-basic-research ' argument just gets to me you know) Anyway, living past one hundred, awesome stuff methinks, hell I dont wanna die! Only concern is who's gonna pay for my retirement! ;) oh, aye, and will viagra still be free on the NHS?
