When i did a nearby on one of my planets, this guy showed up. According to his profile he didnt have any planets, but there were 6 of them actualy there.

There was a minus (-) next to his name in his profile, so perhaps its one of the suspended guys.

Chaos please explain : "Waiting for technical singularity in 2035." Are you waiting for the end of world? I ask because as all people know our world will end in 2013 ... :D

http://www.aleph.se/Trans/Global/Singularity/
http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~phoenix/Lit/vinge-sing.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity

Basically it means technology developes faster and faster (doubling in less amount of time), and according to some calculations the graph of technological progress speed should reach "infinite" speed some time around 2035 :D This could mean new era for humanity, post-humans, electronic minds, AI, etc. I like Vernon Vinge's approach as he's a great sci-fi writer :D

But personally I have my doubts, I don't think progress can reach infinity or even get close, because it's limited by our resources too much. I still think that's one crazy idea, I like it :D

this is what the singularity is based on moore's law

Moore's Law is the empirical observation that the complexity of integrated circuits, with respect to minimum component cost, doubles every 24 months[1]. I

however that is bounded by certain limitations. In terms of size [of transistor] you can see that we're approaching the size of atoms which is a fundamental barrier, but it'll be two or three generations before we get that far—but that's as far out as we've ever been able to see. We have another 10 to 20 years before we reach a fundamental limit. By then they'll be able to make bigger chips and have transistor budgets in the billions.[5]

however i will also point out that the more recent barrier that will be the first one to come into play is the nano barrier where the pathways for information to travel on will become so dense that they will colapse on themselves. this is predicted to take full evect within the next 10 years at most which will either turn into a new revolution in technology (nanobots for lack of a better idea of what would work at such a fundamentally small level) or a halt in modern computing for other solutions liek biocomputers (already in devolpment at UCLA i believe)

a few years ago intle hypothesised that they had found a way to make nano pathways for information but have been unable to devolp a feasable model. just for the record
