Okay. I figured out what was going on and fixed the problem. It was a back door that I had not expected to find. All offending planets have been reset to x9 shields, and the way that these planets were created will not be repeated. We might find a new bug that causes new problems, but this bug has been addressed.

As for the four defeats, his account was reset and he was allowed to restart shortly after the first defeat so that he did not have to get a new account name. However, it did not last too long. Then again, he is a very smart programmer, and while a newbie to the game and not very good at it yet, he is good at finding ways to "break" the system.

At least, he was helpful in helping me understand what happened and how, and it was not what I had thought had happened, but a different problem and potential weakness I had not expected.
