true, but lag is usually not that bad, even in earlier rounds and its common to attack at the end of the round
and it wasn't really that many people for such a bad lag....

The earlier attack, the more time your opponents have to counter attack.
I led until about 11 hours before end of round, its similar every round so we all need to attack at the end.

I know its similar i also notice a trend...

Someone sometime at the end of the round will always say, there was lag, even thou the workload is increased

prehaps this lag was bad this round but still, you have to realise that the server has to pretty much back itself up before the round change, incase of something stupid like a crash, or a glitch etc...

that tales processing speed, then the usually high volume of firstly players, and then attacking, the server has to work overtime, lag will come about, this month it could have been a bit worse but still

There are many variables at work

you sure know what you are talking about ;)
backup itself before round change - ya sure...

and how do you explain that with a logged in account news page was slow as every other page and with just a browser going to news (without being logged in) was at normal speed ?

you think its not backing itself up?

It creates a new link for the stats, goes through the entire game and resets everyones points, adds a production point to 10's of thousands of planets, recalculates defences of all those planets, adds a star onto every player not in Class A

Tell me how long would it take your computer to do that???, and do you really think it starts when the round changes??

*edit*

That has alot to do with the fact that you are logged in and every time you change a page quires are run e.g. are they still logged in?? for a start, and if alot of people are checking news, like i expect they would have been while logged in, it will strain a particular page

There would have been far less people checking the news offline, and it is a different web page, it shows the same stuff but it is for offline people, the logged in news can only be seen by people logged in

Lag was growing recently. Not a permanent one, but there were times the game used to freeze just like today, only not for so long and not so strongly. And that had nothing to do with round change. And i also can't believe server starts all those calculations 2 hours earlier.

I have to agree with RBA, the server wouldn't start backing anything up until the end of the round. Starting your backup process while your data that you want to historically preserve is still changing just doesn't work.

On the other hand, if there is some end of round process that started before the end of the round, maybe it would be best to change that to start later, even if it means the server display's a temporary unavailable due to end of round calculations page for an hour or so AFTER the end of the round.

yeah just have the game go down for 2 hours after the rounds ended to do all changes and updates etc so it doesnt affect the end of round enjoyment
