maybe you were embarresed about showing your emotions so you used a screen of humour ? At my nans funeral 2 years ago i didnt cry or feel upset. Me and my mum were keeping in the laughter while others were crying, but then there was someones stomach growling so loudly, the organ player sat near us behind a curtain coughing and sneezing, and i remember telling myself "your supposed to be upset". I did grieve privatly, but there was something so mechanical or play like about the service, it felt almost surreal, and i found it impossible to be emotional.

i was the same at my grandads funeral.... just one of those things everyone deals with these things differently.... just because your way is different to other peoples doesn't make it wrong.

Same here. I can think about the person gone deeply and with very good feelings about him, but i just can't be upset or cry in the funeral. Probably just because it is a strong social pressure to look very upset, i usually try to look seriuosly and not to hurt anyone but these efforts are what makes me smile very often. Of course not to mention situations when old ladies burns their hats one after another on the same candle or when my grandmother (gone all four already) starts to spread terrible smell when her coat of natural bristle gets on fire too

I was in one of my grandfather's funeral as well. I didn't know him well, actually almost didn't know him at all. I had that empty feeling too, didn't want to laugh or anything, but didn't feel sad either. Except it was a sad thing to see my mother crying.

it is probably because its the fact its a funeral if a loved ones dies when at the funeral you are expected to cry and this may make it even harder to do

well... i guess i'm late to say that I felt that emotion too at all the funerals I've ever been to. I think it's cuz I never got to see my father's funeral when I was 4 years old. Make that *u*k*d me up for life.
