Occasionally, people ask me how many HWs do I have. I am not always sure how to answer this question.

First, the term HomeWorld is not well defined. I have many planets with defense, but I don't really treat any of them as a "home" planet. I have no homeworlds with lots of non-defense resources stored on them. I have non-defense resources stored in moderate amounts on many planets, but none with large stockpiles.

Therefore, the first question I have to always ask when defining what is a HW is how are you defining the term?

Many of my planets with defense have only 4M to 12M of defense on the planet. Some of these, especially those in the battle zone, have a lot of turrets on them (12M defense is enough to stop even trained fighters 99% of the time).

Should a planet with 4M of defense total, and no shields, be called a HW, or simply a modest defense production planet.

If you count planets with more than 3M defense as HWs, then I have 36 HWs in total of my 50 planets.

On the other hand, if you exclude planets with less than 12M defense, then my total number of HWs drops dramatically.

Some people seem to feel that only HWs with less than 100M defense should be counted, potentially in an effort to try to figure out exactly how many troops and energy I have stored on planets. If that is the measure, then I have ZERO homeworlds, as I think 70M of defense is enough to discourage most attacks.

This raises the question again: What is a HomeWorld?

If homeworld means a planet with defenses over 3M, then eventually, I hope that all my planets will be homeworlds, but more than half of them will be small homeworlds of less than 12M total defenses and zero shields (but with turrets), so they will act more like defended production planets than like HWs have traditionally been used in the game.

When I started to play this defination was simple: a planet over 13 milions and then over 21 milions defense was considerd uncapturable(different planet shields amd assaults esp and Attack formulas)and for this was considered an Homeworld. Now the situation is more complicated...
I can easily say that when you have only one planet left you can consider it your Home cause if you l oose it you die ... Professor please check PMs ...

Filas' broad but scientifically accurate deescription works best I think. His definition says a HW is any planet that cannot be captured by 1 ship. So anyone with a planet with more then 1,500,001 def has a HW :)

I always said anything with more than 5 mil def is an HW.

I consider any planet with 70 mil defence and above with a "good amount" of res on it as a HW. A planet with over 70 mil Defence and no res gets the "Big Planet" tag.

Really depends
I literally count anything with over 100k def (that is not obviously a production planet of a fairly inactive player) as a hw. SOme new players have 500k def hws, older players have 100+ mill

A HW is anything that you obviously spent time building rather than it just gathering on its own....

*simply put......

There are no real HomeWorlds now as they are impossible because of current system of the game.
At old times HW was called your main planet - the base of all your ships. Because of that it was the best defended planet and loss of it meaned loss of almost everything you have.
Now there are now real HWs - there are only high defence planets. As we still have term HW, I think the best definition of it would be - the most important planet of the player. But the meaning of such planet now is not big.
