could someone please explain the advantages of gmail to me over other websites?

well sofar all i can find with my gmail account is that you can search your emails like google. but as i have had only 15 emails to that account they are still on the one screen , oh and there is a lot of storage for a free email account, at this moment in time i have 2272 mb of space.

1 GB of space - that was the original selling point - it also (I have been told) links you specific sites based on your emails received/sent (targeted advertising)
