Thank you Lumpi. A very nice and useful discussion on this issue.

By the way, there have been several players who have asked permission to do something odd or test new ideas. Including a few who wanted to try to see if I could catch a new account, which I was quickly able to do every time. I have listened to and considered proposals for those who have asked to help test new features or boundaries in some ways. This has not been prohibited. And, Filas asked for permission to harm the game, which I granted. Told him, and him specifically, to "do his worst" which he then proceeded to do. In this, Filas has done a service to the game by highlighting potential areas of weakness and opportunities for abuse. Now I find that Filas suggested that Keshas do what he did to test the limits, but I had no advance knowledge that this was happening nor any reason to believe that this was being done as a test. It looked like plain and simple cheating to me, and I was getting very tired of cheating. So, time for testing the limits of the game without permission to do so is past. Testing is fine, if you are willing to pay and accept the consequences of doing so, but if you get caught harming the game in any way, you might not be allowed to play again.

Oh, on another related point. One vet pointed out a new bug to me, privately. It is only a moderately harmful bug, not a terrible one, and it might even be viewed as a feature in some ways. I have asked Zygi to try to fix it, but the bug is still there. I also have not been able to fix it yet. Anyway, for now, since he pointed out the bug to me and asked if I would object to him using it to see if or when it would be fixed, I have given him permission to do so. Eventually, this bug will get fixed, and he will have to stop using it. However, meanwhile, I appreciate him pointing out exactly how it works so I can study it and try to stop it. I will get it eventually, but for now, since he was honest about it, I will not punish him for pointing it out.

This is not like the newbie immunity bug. It is a bug like the vital bug that is annoying but not necessarily without risk or potential problems. Anyway, if you do wish to exploit a bug, the safest way to do so is with permission after telling me why it is a bug and giving me ideas about how I might be able to understand and fix it.

The main gap in all this is non-existence of clear rules in game.

Once i was talking about my cousin with you and i pointed that rules must be.

Nowadays bureaucracy is the motor of society. And nobody can do nothing justly to stop crimes when laws legitimate it. At this point you made a mistake. Try to imagine what would have been if i have tried to hide my crime. You wouldn't have caught me. I believe there still are a lot of cheaters who open new accounts on different IP's and provide a lot of coords.

Well, as a lawyer by training, I can tell you that the "rules" of real life are not so simple as you would like them to be either. I drive faster than the speed limit. As long as I am within about 8 MPH (12Kph) or so of the speed limit, I don't get in trouble - most of the time. But, sometimes I get caught and pay the fine.

Microsoft operates on the edge of legality. It is a monopoly, and abuses its monopoly power. But, the company manages to mostly stay on the side of the grey area of the law that keeps it out of trouble more or less.

Apple sued Microsoft for stealing the Windows application look and feel from Apple, but the judge ruled against Apple. The judge did note that Microsoft had indeed stolen the windows look and feel from Apple, but since Apple had stolen it from Xerox first, Apple had no basis for suing Microsoft for stealing something that was already stolen.

Theft of music via MP3 is a serious issue now in the courts. Is this a crime? It is unclear, and yet, laws are being enforced and lifes harmed as a result of litigation, on both the artist and the consumer side of this issue.

There are many cheaters in life. Many are caught. You did have many accounts that were not food and not obvious and you did get away with this for a while.

The IRS forgives tax cheaters who help catch other tax cheaters. This is not unlike being an informer on a bug and being given permission to use it while I am trying to figure out how to stop it (and reporting to me when it is fixed).

There are a few cheaters still to be caught, but less than you appear to believe. And, I am aware of the technique you have used to get coords and am now putting in place systematic methods to search for such activities. If found, they will be punished with the veteran losing access to the account involved in such activities.

Yes, you can cheat and get away with it for a while. It happens in life as well as in the game. But, you can not cheat while trying to hide and then complain when you are caught that you did not know it was wrong.

If you cheat and are caught, you lose your account via suspension. If you do it again, you may lose your entire access to the game. Guardian Angel is gone now, and his type of behavior will not be tolerated any more in the game. What the vet did who reported a new bug is not at all like what you did in knowingly and quietly openning many accounts to get coords to help you gain resources quickly after restarting. That was different in nature and magnitude from exploiting something like the defensive resources bug (which I certainly did while it was there) or a vital bug (which is a darn annoying one to figure out how to stop).

Well, I get bored easily, and like degrees. I have one engineering degree (almost two) and two business degrees (MBA and Doctorate, both from Harvard) and a Law degree (Concord University). My most recent part-time degree quest is to get a CPA degree, but this game is getting in the way of study time for me. Well, also teaching and raising six kids and being on the Board of Directors of a few companies also causes some complications with time management. But, yes, I am a professor, and while I do not practice law, I do have a legal education training.
