Well, what you are missing is that the Mongoleans conquered China, and become the ruling Dynasty and Emporer for a long while, so they have essentially become Chinese by adoption. Of course, the two countries have long been closely related for a long time, and for many years now, the Chinese have ruled the Mongoleans rather than the other way arround as it was for a long period of time in the past.

Of course, China also has a rather humorous tendency to revise history, as do some European nations as well (though less so than China in more recent time periods). Thus, although it was the Mongoleans who concured China and Eastern Europe (for a short time at least), the Chinese are quite happy to lay claim to that as part of their history. Either way, whether it was China or Mongolea that conquered most of the "known" world at that time, it was long before the rise (and subsequent fall) from dominant power of the great british empire. Nations rise. Nations fall, or fade from glory. Some return to dominance again.

Same thing happens in the game. Swarm is dormant now, but if AD returns and with Digiat back, who knows what might happen there. My hope, frankly, is that we can have at least four strong empires battling for supremecy and political alliances, instead of one great power to bash all newbies. Appears that TLT is still a force to be respected (although, in my case, not liked) and TSR and SC are clearly strong. The Swarm is sort of in the background now, but hard to totally dismiss ever, and CiDG is growing in membership and strength. This makes for some nice power struggles (nice because they are less boring that everyone being in one super clan), and provides the raw material for some interesting battles.

Next step, I wish we had a way to be able to realistically attack strong HWs without spending way to many hours in shear boredom training assaults. I have tried training, and would rather get a cavety filled at the denist than to do that personally, though there are some in my clan who are willing to do it for a price as a service (thank goodness for their willingness to do this, as I am definitely NOT willing).

Perhaps I should post some suggestion in this direction in forums for discussion. I won't make changes in any way without discussion, but these are some of my thoughts on this issue.

:D lol long post but useful
Noob bashing at the moment is what you kinda have to do. There are so many new players around that it is near impossible to find an active players coords. So you have to move from system to system killing new players jsut so you have coords to attack bigger players

very interesting talk here, how did I miss this ? :D

one correction: to talk of Chinese or Mongolian Nations in those times is problematic. the mere idea of nation did not come about until early 18th century and nations did not act as a political foce until after 1848. in this respect, all official histories - of all present day nations - are more than ludicrous and self-deceiving. pre-national history was, quite simply, played by dynasties of noblemen and that is it. this is why the Mongolian and Chinese early history are so hard to set appart: in those times, people did not differentiate so much between nation/ethnies as they did between noble and lay ;)

If you look at the definition of nation, you can see that it precludes being merely a 200 year old concept.

1. A relatively large group of people organized under a single, usually independent government; a country.
2. The territory occupied by such a group of people: All across the nation, people are voting their representatives out.
2. The government of a sovereign state.
3. A people who share common customs, origins, history, and frequently language; a nationality: “Historically the Ukrainians are an ancient nation which has persisted and survived through terrible calamity” (Robert Conquest).
4.
1. A federation or tribe, especially one composed of Native Americans.
2. The territory occupied by such a federation or tribe.

There are many examples from early history to the present where large groups of people have acted as a nation, the type of leadership that they may have had was and is largely irrelevant. People have always differentiated on more ground than just lay and noble and often to far greater degree, such as tribe, religion, colour, region, language etc. It is unlikely that the modern idea of nation is as young as is thought. Todays equivalent of nobility and kings are the politicians whose families and circles exert undue influence on the country in which they preside. Persistant ruling elites are a constant throughout world history regardless of the terminology used to describe them.

Okay, so not nation. A tribe, clan, empire, dynasty, or kingdom. But, the Roman empire, Chinese dynasties (often led by ethnic Mongoleans, and hard to really clearly separate from Chinese in history), the Greek, Babylonia, Egptian empires, etc acted more or less like nations that were a federation of local states or territories. Of course, ancient and even more recent Greece and Italy were definitely local city-states bound by common alliances, with turf battles for borders and territory between clans or cities (see Machievilli for interesting perspective on the "nation" of Italy at that time).

To some extent, today, the rulers of large corporations also remind me of the level of power of Barons or kings or emperors of past eras, with many large companies being more powerful than many smaller "nations".

Hey, I made the TOP 50 player list for the last round!!!!

Wow, I guess some restarters can eventually learn to play the game well!

49. Professor 3,424 4,635

Of course, my problem has always been trying to keep up with my newbie clan members.

LOL. They always seem to make me look bad on points. But, I just try to keep the planet count full and the resources coming in. With a variety of NAPs, this keeps me raking in the profits and building up defenses, so I don't have to worry about restarting again.

Even so, I do miss the serial restart days. It was rather fun being invincible for a week.
