Dont forget carries werent there and if it werent for our arrogant thinking that that a tiny asian nation couldnt hurt us it would have been a victory for the US. Problem was threat was never taken seriously. Also provoked by US economic sanctions against Japan most notably the oil embargo.

Pearl Harbor was in actual fact a poorly defended port, as the Fleet were meant to sail out soon. The US had made the mistake of giving a dozen or so destroyers to the British and French Navies, who in their current state were in no shape to take on another war with the Japanese. The Japanese Koryo (Emporer) simply told his Admiral 1 thing; to declare the war with a lightning strike. The Japanese lost only 5 fighters in the attack, while the US lost about...well, a lot of ships out of commision for a while. And some it was permanant.
Their was only really one other battle that took place after that, the Battle of Midway. I believe the Yorktown and the Hornet defended themselves against 4 Japanese carriers...and sunk 1, pretty much sunk 2 more (when your flight deck looks like an orange, you're smucked) The Enterprise was then repaired and the 3 US Carriers launched simultaneous attacks on the Japanese. The Japanese became more and more desperate as a bombing party attacked Tokyo's industry, and they invented Kamikaze missiles and fighters. Finally, with the US nearly on Japan itself, and Europe making angry noises, the Koryo commited honorable suicide.
The US were then forced to make use of the World's first Atomic Bomb. Two islands were decimated, and the Japanese Admiral came aboard the USS Enterprise (I think) and signed surrender documents. World War II was over with the Aliies once again securing victory.

Well saying that the Japs just Laid over and Accepted defeat is a little Harsh

The japs Fought over every island and The USA lost many troops, tanks and ships, it was not plain sailing

Peral Harbour was seen by the Americans to be very well defended by Rader and Air Strips all over the Island of Hawaii

They simply thought an attack was going to happen just did not know where

The fact that the ships and planes were there was enough to have turned the war in Americas favor right then, Yamamoto couldnt even believe it was a success, If we just been slightly prepared the ships and planes couldve been readied in time but then as now Americans were arrogant and did not believe those little asian people could hurt us. Additionaly there was more than just Midway, when you study the Pacific campaign its all about islandhopping. The Philippines, Gwam, Wake, I think Okinawa, and of course there were other naval battles as well such as Guadal Canal
